Gold Visa investment in Portugal rises 62% in October to 46.4 million

 

"Investment captured through 'gold' visas increased by 62% in October, year-on-year, to 46.4 million euros, and grew by 72% compared to September, according to accounts made by Lusa based on SEF data.

 

In October, investment resulting from the Investment Residency Permit (ARI) programme totalled €46,408,694.42, which represents an increase of 62% compared to the same month last year (€28.6 million).

Compared to September of the previous year (€27 million), the investment raised increased by 71.8%.

According to statistical data from the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), in October - the month in which the programme completed nine years - 87 ARI were granted, of which 75 through the acquisition of real estate (28 for urban rehabilitation) and 11 through the capital transfer criterion.

The purchase of real estate added up last month to an investment of 39.6 million euros, of which 9.5 million euros for urban rehabilitation, while the transfer of capital totalled 6.5 million euros.

By countries, in October 15 'golden' visas were granted to China, 14 to the United States, eight to India and eight to Russia and four to South Africa.

In September, 61 ARI had been granted, of which 55 through the purchase of real estate (21 for urban rehabilitation) and seven through capital transfers.

In that month, 14 'gold' visas were granted to China, eight to Russia, eight to the United States, six to Lebanon and four to South Africa.

In the first 10 months of the year 698 'golden' visas were allocated, of which 55 in January, 100 in February, 73 in March, 98 in April, 52 in May, 67 in June, 41 in July, 64 in August, 61 in September and 87 in October.

In this period, the investment raised through this instrument totalled EUR 368.6 million, a retreat of 35% compared to the EUR 568.8 million recorded in the first 10 months of 2020.

The ARI concession programme, launched in October 2012, has seen a cumulative investment of over six billion euros up to last month."
